Buddy the Dog & Keith Perform at Mellon

Buddy the Dog and Keith Courtney recently visited Mellon Elementary School to offer words of encouragement and inspiration to students who will soon take the FCAT and SAT 10 Tests. Keith shared the Five P's to success & Buddy performed a trick to go with each one: Have a Postive Attitude, Plan, Practice, Perform and Be Proud. Buddy showed he had a positive attitude when he caught the Milkbone Keith tossed him, Buddy showed how long it would take to make a plan if your teacher had not come up with one, Buddy showed how practice pays off when he performed his famous "disappearing Milkbone trick". Buddy showed how to perform when he showed how he would be asleep at a decent time. Finally, Buddy showed how proud he was when he smiled and shook hands with his trainer.

Spirit Week Culminates with Pep Rally
5th Grader perform at the Pep Rally

For once it was okay to get really, really loud in the cafeteria as the entire Mellon population gathered to join forces in focusing on doing one's best on the FCAT and SAT 10 tests. Every grade level from Pre-K to Fifth created and performed a cheer. Athletes from Palatka High School offered advice, even the Cat in the Hat appeared with his sidekicks Thing 3 and Thing 4 to give "Seussish" words of wisdom. Maria Herrera led her ESL students in a bilingual pep talk. Ted Haengel enlisted the help of Literacy Council members to remind students to DO YOUR BEST! The grand finale to a fun day was "Mustang Mellon", sung to the tune of 'Mustang Sally" by Lisa Hewitt, Kira Forbes and Shelley Thompson and backed up by Patsy Munch, Debby Decubellis, and Janet Mast.
